The change from art to speculation and investment object is taking place at Art Basel. Agents buy art that is often made by third parties on behalf of the artists. Many of these objects end up unseen in archives. In 2023, according to the Art Basel and UBS report, global sales of art rose by 3% year-on-year to an estimated 67.8 billion US dollars.
